Are we there yet?

I admit to holding my head in despair when mince pies and gifts appear in the shops in early October, as Christmas seems such a long way off. Although I desperately attempt to avoid jumping on the same bandwagon, I must confess that writing has been suspended for a few days as I prepare for my first seasonal outing on Saturday 18th November. In spite of the fact that it makes no mention of Christmas, many attending this Literary Lunch, will hopefully put aside copies of Pevensey the Pirate King as stocking fillers for children and grandchildren.

The next event is actually in December and is based at the Almonry in Evesham. This 14th Century building was once home to the Almoner of the Benedictine Abbey that was founded at Evesham in the 8th Century. His job was to distribute money to the ‘deserving’ poor. Quite appropriate, as most writers would see themselves in that category. Let us hope that there is not as much snow as in the photograph, or the event might not take place at all. The top floor of the building will house stalls where you can meet authors and buy signed copies of their works. Talks and readings will also take place upstairs, and workshops will be downstairs.

My final event this year, will be the Linton Christmas Cracker Tea on 10th De which was a great success last year. Proceeds from all talks will, once again be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
